MY EVENT, ON STEROIDS
When I am almost too busy to talk to my daughter I am way too busy ! And blogging has been lower on my list recently, too. But I asked for it.
My Sierra Club Conservation Committee of one (me :) on this issue is still just that. I worked last Sunday at the Earth Day in the Botanical Gardens here in town. I must have recounted the evils of the proposed construction of the elevated highway a thousand times that day, and handed out as many leaflets and bumper stickers. It is not hard to sell my point of view as this project is horrifying to anyone who hears the details ( tolls, blight, concentration of fumes from so many cars, just to list a few). My being able to answer questions and talk about alternatives has come from me attending several meetings and writing articles about the issue, which I am happy to do.
The bigger challenge ahead of me is my Global Warming event for the local Democrat group.
It may be headed for an event on steroids.
It somehow has jumped from an evening of debate between knowledgeable panelists with impressive resumes to " How would you like Al Gore to come? I know his people. "
Wow ! The most I thought I would be organizing is a rally with booths of interested organizations and vendors, maybe a few auto dealers showing hybrid cars, and the debate. I guess he will either say "yes" or "no" and I will not lose sleep over it until I see which way it goes.
But if by some freaky chance he says "yes", I think I have my hands full !
